PISCES is involved with Bird Studies Canada and have signed up for the Beached Birds Survey Program.
This involves conducting a survey once per month during the last week of the month all year round. This involves walking a selected section of shoreline along Portage Inlet and completing a survey of conditions (topography, backshore type, slope of the land, weather conditions, etc) If any beached birds are found there is a specific protocol to be followed in identifying these birds.
This information is very valuable to Bird Studies Canada to help them understand changes in coastal bird populations and sources of mortality(including oiling).
